Venice Film Festival: Nicole Kidman dedicates award to deceased mother

Hollywood star Nicole Kidman has won the award for best actress in Venice. However, contrary to plan, she will not be attending the gala because her mother died shortly beforehand.

Due to the death of her mother, actress Nicole Kidman did not attend the awards ceremony at the Venice Film Festival. There, the 57-year-old won the award for best actress.

Director Halina Reijn read a message on her behalf: “Today I arrived in Venice to learn shortly afterwards that my beautiful, brave mother Janelle Ann has died. I am in shock and need to be with my family, but this award is for her. She shaped me, she guided me and she made me. I am eternally grateful that I can pass her name on to all of you through Halina.” Kidman said her heart was broken.

Director Brady Corbet, who won the Silver Lion for Best Director, expressed his condolences to Kidman on stage.
