After the tasteless jokes: Luke Mockridge removed from further programs

After Sat.1, the organizers of the comedy format “Night Wash” also took action because of Luke Mockridge’s tasteless Paralympics jokes.

For Luke Mockridge (35), his tasteless jokes about the Paralympics have further consequences. After the broadcaster Sat.1 decided not to broadcast a fully produced show with him as presenter, the 35-year-old was also removed at short notice from an event of the comedy format “Night Wash”. A spokesperson for the event said this.

Mockridge was actually supposed to be on stage last Sunday (8 September) together with other comedians in the castle park in Paderborn. The comedy evening took place – just without the son of the acting couple Bill Mockridge (77) and Margie Kinsky (66).

Previously, Sat.1 reacted

Mockridge was actually supposed to celebrate his comeback on Sat.1 on September 12th with the comedy quiz “What’s in the Box?”. However, station spokesman Christoph Körfer explained last weekend that, in view of the comedian’s outburst, the decision had been made not to broadcast the show: “The statements about disabled people and para-athletes, which many people are rightly outraged about, do not fit with our values.”

It is not yet known whether the scandal will have consequences for Mockridge’s comedy tour. The tour is also scheduled to kick off on September 12th in Bünde, and over 20 more shows are planned until November. There is no information on his official website that any of the performances could be cancelled.

The statements and the horrified reactions

The trigger for outrage and criticism was an episode of the podcast “Die Deutschen” by Nizar (40) and Shayan, in which Mockridge was a guest and which also covered the Paralympic Games. In the episode, which was published in mid-August, Mockridge cracked tasteless jokes at the expense of people with disabilities. Among others, former track cyclist and two-time Olympic champion Kristina Vogel (33), who has been paraplegic since a training accident in 2018, criticized Mockridge’s statements in clear terms as “dehumanizing sh**”.

Mockridge did apologize immediately after the shitstorm against him. In the comments section, however, there is a growing belief that he may have only posted the statement to limit the damage and not out of genuine remorse. Recently, musician Guildo Horn (61) also gave vent to his anger and sharply criticized Mockridge.

that he was “so stunned” by Mockridge’s “stupid chatter” [sei]that it simply has to come out: Is this the result of trying too hard to make your child believe that he or she is special: particularly entertaining, particularly funny, particularly mischievously charming… what do I know?! Luke, you are none of those things! You are just a poor little sausage!”
