The announcement was made last week by Ciancio, together with the Secretary of Cooperation, Christian Cunhaafter the administration of Maximilian Pullaro announced the inter-ministerial plan “Objective Dengue”, with a cost of $8 billion.
Santa Fe: Who should be vaccinated against dengue?
The first stage of the Santa Fe dengue vaccination campaign is aimed at young people between 15 and 19 years old who live in the departments of 9 de Julio, San Cristóbal and General Obligado, and in neighborhoods of Santa Fe, Rosario and Rafaela (selected by population density, access to public health and services, and link to endemic areas, among other variables).
At a press conference held at the Government House, in the city of Santa Fe, The authorities provided details of the vaccination strategy that will be carried out within the framework of the Objetivo Dengue program, whose focus is prevention and awareness, and through which the provincial government acquired 160 thousand doses (80,000 complete schemes) of Qdenga dengue vaccines, from the Takeda Argentina SA laboratory, with an investment of 4.5 billion pesos.
The provincial government has established a vaccination strategy that is segmented, focused, progressive and dynamic to protect the most vulnerable population, administering the dose free of charge to the target population, a process that will begin this Monday, September 9, in health centers and hospitals.

“There is a first stage of this campaign where we are going to vaccinate the target population, which is made up of adolescents and young people from 15 to 19 years old,” said Ciancio, who explained that this is so “on the recommendation of the National Immunization Commission.”
The priority jurisdictions to start this campaign are the departments of 9 de Julio, San Cristóbal and General Obligado, places chosen because between 2009 and 2024 they were the regions most affected by the disease. The same will occur with the inhabitants of some neighborhoods of Santa Fe, Rosario and Rafaela (selected for population density, access to public health and services, and link to endemic areas, among other variables).
The minister also stressed that “in a second stage of this campaign, in the last week of September, we will vaccinate health personnel, police officers and firefighters in an age group ranging from 20 to 39 years.”
The doses will be applied “to people we have already identified: our registration system allows us today to have the records of the people we are going to vaccinate, who will be evaluated at the end of each week,” said the official, who explained that “the vaccine consists of two doses, with an interval of three months from each other, and we have to administer both.
“There are experiences in other jurisdictions where adherence to the second dose is very low, which makes it less effective. That is why we will have to go out and look for people who do not comply with the second dose,” he added.
“Without definitions of Nation”
On Monday, Minister Ciancio spoke about the start of the vaccination campaign and stated that they had waited for definitions from the Nation but, not having them, they decided to move forward on their own.
“Policies, especially regarding immunizations, have always been in the hands of the national State. We, in April, especially Governor Pullaro, understanding that there were some inaccuracies, decided to begin negotiations for the purchase of dengue vaccines,” he told Futurock.
He also praised the development of “an unprecedented inter-ministerial programme in the province, where we set up other ministries in addition to the Ministry of Health to work on dengue prevention, knowing fundamentally that vector control is the fundamental pillar of this programme.”
At the same time, the official said that “one of the strategies is to have a vaccination campaign in priority areas.”
