Tyrese Gibson is said to have been remanded in custody following a court hearing. He must pay missing child support payments.
Tyrese Gibson (45) is said to have been arrested in court on Monday morning (September 9) because he allegedly did not pay his ex-wife Samantha Lee child support for their five-year-old daughter. The court in Fulton County in the US state of Georgia initially held a hearing about the ongoing child support dispute.
Too little maintenance payments
According to “TMZ”, the judge was visibly annoyed by Tyrese’s refusal to pay the $10,000 (around €9,000) per month he had ordered. The “Fast & Furious” actor is said to have been ordered to pay in April 2023. Gibson was therefore apparently arrested in the courtroom for contempt of court.
According to the celebrity portal, the judge stated that Gibson could avoid a prison sentence if he paid $73,000 (around €66,000). This includes $7,500 (around €6,800) for Samantha Lee’s legal fees. Gibson is said to have claimed that he has paid child support over the past year. However, according to “TMZ”, this was only $2,200 (around €1,900), far less than the amount ordered by the judge.
Gibson and Lee tied the knot in 2017, and their daughter was born in October 2018. Two years later, the couple announced their divorce. He also has a 17-year-old daughter with ex-wife Norma Mitchell, whom he was married to from 2007 to 2009. This Monday, Gibson apparently released pictures with his children before the court hearing and said: “The love a father can feel for his children cannot be explained. Whatever the outcome today, I am and will always be their father.”
