James Earl Jones has died at the age of 93. The actor lent his voice to Darth Vader in the “Star Wars” series.

James Earl Jones (1931-2024) is dead. The actor and voice actor died on Monday (September 9) at the age of 93 in his home in Dutchess County, New York. This was confirmed by the actor’s representatives.

Jones took on his first film role in 1964 in “Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb”. He later landed roles in Hollywood films such as “Conan the Barbarian”, “Coming to America”, “Field of Dreams” and “The Hunt for Red October”. He also worked as a stage actor and made his Broadway debut in 1957. The film drama “The Great White Hope” (1970) and the role of boxer Jack Johnson earned him an Oscar nomination and a Golden Globe award.

Famous dubbing role and EGOT status

Overall, Jones was able to enjoy EGOT status in his career, winning at least one Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony. In 2011, for example, he was awarded an honorary Oscar. Jones was not only known as an actor, but also as a voice actor. With his distinctive voice, he voiced the villain Darth Vader in the original “Star Wars” films (first in 1977). He also lent his voice to the lion Mufasa in Disney’s “The Lion King” (1994 and the 2019 remake) in the original films.
