Jack White and Meg White: Lawsuit against Trump over “Seven Nation Army”

Because of the “Seven Nation Army” in a campaign video: The White Stripes are suing presidential candidate Donald Trump and his team.

Jack White (49) and his ex-wife Meg White (49), who are known together as the rock band White Stripes, are suing Donald Trump (78). They accuse the Republican presidential candidate of having illegally misused their song “Seven Nation Army” for his election campaign.

Jack White posted a screenshot of the first page of the lawsuit he filed with Meg White in New York. He commented on the post with the words: “This machine is suing fascists.”

Unauthorized use of “Seven Nation Army”

According to the charging documents, Trump did not seek the band’s permission or support to use the music, nor did his campaign team respond to efforts to resolve the issue in court. According to the White Stripes, Trump and his staff were aware that the use of the song was unauthorized and thus violated copyright law. They are now suing Trump and his team for damages.

According to the Variety report, at the end of August, Jack White had already threatened to sue Trump’s campaign team after its deputy communications director Margo Martin used the song “Seven Nation Army” in a now-deleted video on X that showed Trump walking on stage.

It goes on to say that the lawsuit also refers to an earlier criticism of Donald Trump by the White Stripes during the 2016 election campaign. At that time, he used the words “Seven Nation Army.” They are “disgusted by this association.” The use of their song is “even more offensive” because they “vehemently oppose the policies and actions of Defendant Trump during his presidency and those he has proposed for his sought second term.”

Musicians fight back against Trump and his campaign team

The White Stripes are by far not the only musicians to publicly oppose the use of their music in Trump’s election campaign. Recently, Céline Dion (56), the family of the late soul musician Isaac Hayes (1942 – 2008) and Beyoncé (43) made headlines.
