Shortly after the first debate between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris, Taylor Swift pledged her support for the latter. And as numbers prove, that could still have an impact.
It was a statement of opinion that many people in the USA have been waiting for for a long time: Taylor Swift announced shortly after the first TV debate between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris that she would vote for the Democratic candidate. It remains to be seen what effect Swift’s voting decision might have. Now, however, an initial number has been announced that should give hope.
Taylor Swift linked election website
In her Instagram story, Swift linked a special URL that redirected interested parties to the vote.gov website. There, eligible voters in the USA can register to vote. A necessary step for everyone who has already reached the appropriate age and is allowed to cast their vote.
As NBC News reports, the General Services Administration in the USA can see exactly how many people clicked on Swift’s link: By Wednesday afternoon (in the USA) there were 337,826 people.

She chooses Kamala Harris
Democrats in particular are hoping that Swift can motivate her young voters to go to the polls and cast their votes in November. “I did my own research and made my decision,” Swift told her fans on Instagram. “It’s your job to do your research and you have to make your choice. I also want to say, especially to first-time voters: remember that you have to be registered to vote! I also think it’s much easier to vote early,” the musician continued.
The record-breaking musician supported her own voting decision with facts. She was particularly impressed by Harris’s attitude’ Vice-candidate Tim Walz on LGBTQ+ rights and fertility treatments such as IVF. The “woman’s right to her own body” is just as important to Swift herself. In this respect, the musician apparently feels best represented by the Democrats.
