In a fashion trip back in time, Janet Jackson revealed a butt accident that happened to her in front of the Queen.
Janet Jackson (58) has revealed how her pants burst during a live performance in front of Queen Elizabeth II (1926 – 2022) in the 1990s. “I just thought, ‘Oh, my God!'” she confesses in a video for British “Vogue”.
Jackson recalls seventeen famous outfits and fashion faux pas between 1970 and today for the fashion magazine. One fashion anecdote in particular remains in the memory: when Michael Jackson’s sister (1958 – 2009) almost showed the British Queen her bottom.
How could the butt accident happen?
Jackson was performing the song “Rhythm Nation” when the seam of her pants ripped at her butt, exposing her rear end after she had squatted down to do a dance move. The singer did not say at which event the fiasco occurred.
“I couldn’t believe it had happened. I just thought, ‘Oh my God!’ And then I felt the air back there and that’s how I knew it had really happened,” says Jackson. Today she can laugh about the situation.
She managed to cover up the mishap by performing the rest of the choreography without turning around. “I never turned my back to her,” so that the Queen of England would not have caught an unexpected glimpse of her bare bottom. This would probably have been a scandal at the time.
Jackson caused this with Justin Timberlake (43) and an outfit mishap in the USA in 2004. During a prestigious performance during the halftime break of the US Super Bowl, her duet partner Timberlake pulled on Jackson’s top in front of an audience of millions and accidentally exposed her right breast. “Nipplegate” was born. Timberlake later apologized for the “clothing mishap” and explained that it was “unintentional”.
