Otronia nominated for “Best New World Winery” by Wine Enthusiast

Otronia, a member of Alejandro Bulgheroni Family Vineyards, is nominated as Best winery in the New World by the famous Wine Enthusiast magazine which presents the Wine Star Awards. This award recognises and celebrates the innovation of those who contribute significantly to the success of the world of wine.

“It is a source of pride for our family that Otronia has been nominated for the Best Winery in the New World. This nomination represents a recognition of those challenging projects that go beyond the limits and expand the boundaries of the wine world, seeking terroirs that improve the quality of the wines” he commented. Alejandro P. Bulgheroni, Chairman of the Board and Founder.

Otronia is recognized and nominated in this category for its contribution to the wine industry and innovation from the depths of Extreme Patagonia, located in Sarmiento, Chubut, Argentina.

“Being nominated among so many wineries is the result of many years of work in a place with unique conditions, on the edge of what is possible. It is a recognition of innovation, of the expansion of viticulture to extreme places, of the quality of wines from a terroir and especially of climatic conditions such as those of Sarmiento” he added. Juan Pablo Murgia, Otronia Winemaker.

Since Otronia’s beginnings, our mission as a project has been driven by the spirit of following two fundamental principles: precision viticulture and agroecology, respecting the ecosystem and enhancing the profile of our wines through the natural strength of the vineyards. This philosophy converges with the science and detail of the technology applied to each of our vineyards under the concept of parcelling and micro-terroir, respecting each portion of the soil, its heterogeneity and diversity. Thus reflecting the Sarmiento terroir in each bottle.

Otronia is a very special place where the wines achieve a unique character thanks to the intense cold that forges their complexity, delicacy and longevity. The extreme climate, intense solar radiation and strong winds present a great challenge, forcing the vineyard to be conditioned naturally, with the planting of thousands of trees and the installation of sprinklers to protect the vines and combat frost by freezing the plant structure (igloo effect).

As in every edition, the North American magazine Wine Enthusiast recognizes and rewards outstanding contributions to the world of wine through 13 categories and different special recognitions. Due to their prestige, track record and influence of their panel of experts, these awards are considered the most important in the wine industry at a global level.
