Album release: Singer of Berlin band Mighty Oaks: AI won’t help us

After a long break, Mighty Oaks have returned with their new album. There are also some minor errors on it – also a sign of quality.

The Berlin band Mighty Oaks wants to continue making their music without the support of new technology in the future. “We haven’t found a way for AI to be helpful to us,” said singer Ian Hooper in an interview with the German Press Agency. He hopes that the development will move towards handmade being a quality “that people like to hear when much more is done by artificial intelligence.”

Nevertheless, “it doesn’t really help anyone” to fight against technology in general, said Hooper. After a long break, he and his bandmates Claudio Donzelli and Craig Saunders have returned with their new album “High Times”.

Especially in a time when music can be perfected more and more through technology, Mighty Oaks deliberately keep their own style minimal. “We recorded live at my place, brought the recording studio up from the basement of my house, where there is a lot of wood and everything sounds warmer. You can’t edit and perfect it afterwards,” said Hooper. This means the musicians are “much more in the moment.” However, small errors are also audible – but this in no way reduces the quality.

Mighty Oaks will be touring with the new album starting in October. Concerts are planned in Munich, Erlangen, Bochum and Rostock, among others.
