He had just played in Munich, and now the music world is mourning Tito Jackson: Michael Jackson’s brother has died.
Tito Jackson, founding member of the Jackson 5 and brother of Michael Jackson (1958-2009), has died at the age of 70. This was confirmed by his nephew Siggy Jackson (47). According to “Entertainment Tonight”, the musician died on Sunday, September 15, from the effects of a heart attack.
The band was on tour
Before his sudden death, Tito Jackson had performed with his brothers Jackie Jackson (73) and Marlon Jackson (67) as The Jacksons and had played shows in Scotland, California and England in the summer of 2024. On September 10, the group performed at the Circus Krone in Munich – the only stop in Germany during the tour. There, the brothers also visited “the beautiful memorial dedicated to our beloved brother Michael Jackson,” the deceased wrote on Facebook. “We are deeply grateful for this special place that honors not only his memory but also our shared legacy. Thank you for keeping his spirit alive.”
Founding member of The Jackson 5
Tito Jackson was a founding member of The Jackson 5, which also included Michael, Jackie, Jermaine and Marlon (and later Randy Jackson). The family pop group had hits in the 70s such as “I Want You Back”, “ABC” and “I’ll Be There”. The band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997 and also received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The deceased also started a solo career and released two studio albums. In 2021, he told “Blues Blast” magazine in an interview: “I wanted to make music and be on stage again. I’ve played the Jackson 5’s stuff practically my whole life, but in my family, blues was the main music. I just wanted to jam, but I couldn’t get professionals to do something like that.”
His last single, “Love One Another,” was released in 2021. The accompanying music video featured members of the Jackson family as well as celebrities such as Kris Jenner (68) and Kim Kardashian (43). Jackson’s sons Taj (51), TJ (46) and Taryll (49) also appeared. The men formed the band 3T, which Tito Jackson managed, and appeared in the reality series “The Jacksons: Next Generation” in 2015.
