Emova promotes sustainable mobility in schools

This Wednesday, September 18, Emova exhibits at the Facultad de Derecho station on Line H, the results of the first edition of its educational program implemented in 7 secondary schools close to each of the subway and Premetro lines, in order to promote environmental awareness among its youngest users.

In this way, more than 170 students incorporated the concepts linked to the responsible use of the subway and the importance of using a more efficient means of transport:

• A subway transports the same number of people as 900 cars. People who use it generate a carbon footprint 4 times smaller than those who use a private car.

• Typically, 50% of public space in cities is dedicated to cars. A journey from home to work by car consumes 90 times more space than one made by subway.

• In Latin America, transport is the largest source of CO2 emissions, accounting for 40%. 95% of the transport sector is still largely based on fossil fuels and greenhouse gas emissions from urban transport could increase by 60% by 2050.

This program was carried out in partnership with the Conciencia Association in the following institutions: Technical School No. 26 “Swiss Confederation”; Technical School No. 19 “Alejandro Volta”; the Luis A. Huergo Industrial Institute; Technical School No. 28 “French Republic”; Commercial School No. 05 “José de San Martín”; the Presbyterian Manuel Alberti Institute and the Our Lady of Fatima Institute.

As a result, the students developed public welfare campaigns that seek to encourage the population to use environmentally friendly means of transport and graphic artist Josefina Jolly was hired to work on the sketches that are on display.

“This initiative is part of our Sustainability strategy in which we seek to raise awareness about the importance of the Subway as a sustainable means of mobility, as well as its contributions to reducing environmental pollution and traffic congestion. In this way, through this program we motivate young people to continue adopting sustainable transportation practices and become multiplying agents of these messages that have a positive impact on our society,” said Mariana Giacumbo, Manager of Institutional Relations and Media at Emova.

In addition, within the framework of Sustainable Mobility Week, Emova’s Strategic Planning Director, Ester Litovsky, will speak on the topic at the Mobility 360° event organized by Ualabee, and will be a speaker at the discussion organized by IARSE, where she will share experiences of responsible management. In addition, Emova will participate in the e-book developed by Ualabee, which compiles experiences of sustainable mobility in Latin America.

Along these lines, Emova recently presented its first Sustainability Report 2021-2023, which reports on the actions implemented by the company in environmental, social and governance matters. In this way, the company continues to strengthen its bond with the communities in which it operates through its commitment to responsible management of the Network.
