Arnold Schwarzenegger was a bodybuilder, Hollywood star and politician. He will receive an honorary doctorate in Berlin. The speech in his honor will be given by Federal Minister of Economics Habeck.
The film star and former governor of California, Arnold Schwarzenegger, has received an honorary doctorate in Berlin. The private Hertie School awarded him the title in recognition of his fight for climate protection and his civil society engagement.
Vice Chancellor and Federal Minister of Economics Robert Habeck (Greens) said in his laudatory speech that Schwarzenegger more than deserved the honorary doctorate. He praised the 77-year-old as an extraordinary person and politician and called him a role model for all of humanity.
Schwarzenegger is a person with character and stands for decency and the ability to compromise. As a politician, he was guided by what was right and necessary, not by ideological guidelines, such as in his commitment to renewable energy as governor of the US state of California.
Schwarzenegger: Don’t listen to the naysayers
Schwarzenegger thanked everyone for the honorary doctorate in the packed auditorium of the university in Berlin-Mitte. What makes him happiest is not being a successful bodybuilder and Hollywood star or earning millions, but being able to give something back to others, he stressed.
Being of use is his aim. And he wanted to share another life experience: “Don’t listen to the naysayers.” If you want to achieve something, you shouldn’t let them impress you.
Schwarzenegger was born in Austria and first became world famous as a muscle man and actor. At just 20 years old he became “Mr. Universe” and then made a career as a bodybuilder in the USA. In Hollywood he became known through action roles such as “Conan the Barbarian”.
Schwarzenegger achieved cult status as “Terminator” (1984) in the science fiction film of the same name, but he also appeared in comedies such as “Kindergarten Cop”. He was governor of California from 2003 to 2011. He has long been committed to the fight against climate change.
