The director James Cameron acquired the rights to the next book by Charles Pellegrino “Ghosts of Hiroshima”to be published by Blackstone Publishing in August 2025 (the 80th anniversary of the dropping of the bomb in 1945).

Cameron will combine and adapt “Ghosts” and Pellegrino’s 2015 book “Last Train From Hiroshima” in a single film, which will be shot when production on “Avatar” allows. It will be titled “Last Train from Hiroshima.”


What will James Cameron’s new film be about?
The film will tell the true story of a Japanese man who survived two atomic bombings during World War II: after surviving the explosion in Hiroshima, he took a train to Nagasaki, where he suffered another explosion. Pellegrino was a scientific consultant to Cameron both Avatar as in Titanicand Cameron has been interested in bringing this story to the big screen for more than 20 years.
The project would mark Cameron’s first project outside of the Avatar franchise as a narrative feature director since 1997’s Titanic. The Oscar winner’s other credits include Terminator, Aliens, The Abyss, Terminator 2: Judgment Day and True Lies. His documentary projects include Ghosts of the Abyss, Aliens of the Deep and Expedition: Bismarck.
