The Kooks’ present
The Kooks In 2018, they experienced a rare situation for bands that in the mid-2000s captivated an audience in the prime of their youth: the release of their album ‘Let’s Go Sunshine’ saw the Brighton band top festival bills across Europe and at home. The rise of streaming had opened The Kooks up to a new audience of young fans who loved their distinctive brand of indie rock and were eager to see them play live. Against all odds, they were in the prime of their career.
After an exhausting tour, Luke Pritchardpromised to take a break. But instead, she found herself traveling to Berlin to get back into the studio. Berlin had long been something of a creative mecca for artists from around the world and Pritchard found herself moving in those circles, meeting the collaborators she would work with on her mammoth sixth album, ’10 Tracks To Echo In The Dark’. An album that, despite having been cooked between two cities (Berlin and Brighton) and being crossed by the pandemic, maintains a clear Berlin sensibility and flirts with genres ranging from 80s synth-pop to funk and progressive rock, remains, in essence, an indie album and, in addition, sounds like a few The Kooks true to their style but fresher than ever.
