Prince Harry: At charity event in London

Returning for a good cause – and in royal service: Prince Harry is coming to London for the WellChild Awards 2024 ceremony.

Despite his retirement as a working royal and his move to the USA, Prince Harry will return to London in September to take on one of the few royal duties that the 40-year-old has left. There, the Duke of Sussex will attend the annual awards ceremony on September 30 in London in his role as patron of the WellChild charity, which supports seriously ill children. It is not known whether his wife Meghan will accompany her husband to the WellChild Awards 2024.

Following the late Queen Elizabeth II’s request that Harry step down from most royal patronages before the move, Prince Harry chose to retain his position at the WellChild charity, a patronage the younger son of King Charles III had already held for 16 years.

Prince Harry: “Invaluable help” for WellChild

Over the years, Prince Harry has proven to be an “invaluable help” in raising awareness and raising funds for the organization, according to WellChilds. The Duke of Sussex has already attended the awards ceremony twelve times. This time, too, Harry will spend time with each winner and their family at a reception before the awards ceremony, according to a statement from the organization.

The 40-year-old will also present the award for the most inspirational child (4-6 years) and give a speech. “I am once again honoured to be taking part in this year’s WellChild Awards, which celebrate the remarkable courage and achievements of children with complex medical needs. These incredible young people, as well as the dedicated carers, nurses and professionals who tirelessly support them, inspire us all,” the prince said in a statement.

Meeting with King Charles planned?

It remains unclear whether Prince Harry will meet his father King Charles, who is suffering from cancer, during his stay in London. Just two days before Harry’s appearance at the WellChild Awards 2024, Charles and his wife, Queen Camilla, will be there to mark the 25th anniversary of the Scottish Parliament.

Charles and Harry last saw each other in February, when the Duke of Sussex paid a brief visit to his father after it was announced that he had cancer.
