The fans will quickly get used to this address: Soon the Bayern players will go out and play football at Franz-Beckenbauer-Platz 5.
A fitting honor for a football icon: A street in Munich is being named after Franz Beckenbauer, who died at the beginning of this year at the age of 78. But not just any street will soon bear the name of the emperor – it will be the address of the Allianz Arena. From January 7, 2025, exactly one year after Beckenbauer’s death, FC Bayern will play its home games at Franz-Beckenbauer-Platz 5.
in this regard with the words: “The naming of a street is the highest honor that the city of Munich can bestow posthumously and a sign of the deep respect and appreciation that we have for Franz Beckenbauer.” The footballer and later coach is “one of the greatest athletes our city has ever produced. With his sporting successes and his commitment to football, he has left a lasting mark on Germany’s sporting landscape. His calm, humorous manner and his way of expressing himself will forever remain part of the Munich attitude to life,” said Reiter.
Footballer instead of physicist
The current official address of the Allianz Arena is Werner-Heisenberg-Allee 25 – named after the famous German physicist who recently gained pop cultural significance thanks to the series “Breaking Bad”. The fact that the house number is being changed from 25 to 5 is to be understood as a tribute to Beckenbauer’s legendary jersey number as Bayern captain.
Just a few months after Beckenbauer’s death, it was announced that a bronze statue of the Kaiser would be erected in front of the Allianz Arena on the initiative of the Kurt Landauer Foundation. It will be one and a half times life-size and in the same style as the one that was inaugurated last year in honor of Gerd Müller. The club legend died in 2021 at the age of 75.
