Released from hospital: Seriously ill Heinz Hoenig is back home

Heinz Hoenig was taken to a clinic at the beginning of May due to acute heart problems. Now the actor has been able to return home to his family, as his wife says.

After several months in hospital, the seriously ill actor Heinz Hoenig (72) is back home with his family. “Heinz was really happy,” his wife Annika Kärsten-Hoenig told “Bild”. “At first he could hardly believe that he was finally back home.”

Hoenig was taken to a Berlin hospital at the beginning of May because of acute heart problems. According to his wife, he was in an artificial coma and had successfully undergone surgery on his esophagus. As “Bild” reports, an important operation on his main artery and thus another hospital stay are still pending. His management was initially unavailable for an inquiry.

Cared for by his wife at home

According to “Bild”, Hoenig was taken by ambulance on Thursday from Berlin to Blankenburg in the Harz Mountains (Saxony-Anhalt), where he lives with his wife and their two small children. The media outlet shared photos of Hoenig in a wheelchair on the street in front of the ambulance, in front of a “Welcome Home” poster and with his family.

Kärsten-Hoenig explained that she had “warmly welcomed” her husband at home with two friends and the children. “Juliano and Jianni never left their dad’s side,” she said. “They really missed him very much.” According to the report, Hoenig’s wife, who is a trained nurse, will continue to care for him at home from now on.

Hoenig played a role in the 1980s hit “Das Boot”. He is also known from television miniseries directed by Dieter Wedel in the 1990s – “Der große Bellheim”, “Der Schattenmann” and “Der König von St. Pauli”. At the beginning of the year he was a candidate in the RTL jungle camp. Hoenig turns 73 on September 24th.
