Heinz Hoenig: This is how he raves about his first night at home

After an endless time in the hospital, Heinz Hoenig was allowed to return home. In the first few hours there, he enjoyed the little joys in life.

Actor Heinz Hoenig (72) had to spend over 140 days, or more than a third of the year, in intensive care. Last Friday (September 20), he was all the more delighted to be able to leave the hospital and instead pursue his recovery in his own four walls. Hoenig now revealed what gave him the greatest joy after returning home.

Anyone who has had to spend several days in hospital should be able to relate to Hoenig’s answer: “I haven’t slept so well for a long time. And next to my wife, too. It couldn’t get any better,” he said, summing up his modest but all the more touching moment of happiness. In general, the joy of being surrounded by his loved ones again prevails: “There is nothing better for me than being reunited with my Anni and my boys.”

Given the problems of Hoenig’s health, it is not a given that the actor was allowed to leave the hospital. In fact, it is only thanks to the medical training of his wife Annika Kärsten-Hoenig (39) that the option even arose: “Without having worked in the medical field, you cannot do this professionally. That was also the prerequisite for being discharged at home,” said Kärsten-Hoenig. For her, that now means “being there for him 24 hours a day, around the clock.”

Heinz Hoenig has been in hospital since May

The 72-year-old was hospitalized in May with heart problems. The actor later underwent an operation on his esophagus. Heinz Hoenig is currently still waiting for an operation on his aorta. This can only be carried out under optimal conditions. “And it will certainly be months before that can happen,” his wife told Bild.
