Convicted murderers Lyle and Erik Menendez received a visit from US star Kim Kardashian in prison.
US star Kim Kardashian (43) met the brothers Lyle (56) and Erik Menendez (53), who have been sentenced to life imprisonment, in prison on Saturday (September 21). The Menendez brothers are currently on everyone’s lips thanks to the Netflix series “Monster: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story”. Kardashian visited them and around 40 other inmates on Saturday in the Richard J. Donovan Correctional Facility near San Diego.
Kim Kardashian advocates for prison reforms
Kardashian was accompanied by her sister Khloe Kardashian (40) and her mother Kris Jenner (68). Actor Cooper Koch (28) was also part of the visiting group. He plays Erik Menendez in the new Netflix series. On site, Kardashian spoke to the inmates about possible criminal justice reforms, a topic that is particularly close to the 43-year-old’s heart.
She therefore regularly speaks to incarcerated people about various projects that she supports. Her visit was specifically about the Greenspace initiative, which aims to help beautify prison yards in order to have a positive effect on the inmates’ resocialization. Lyle Menendez heads this initiative, and his younger brother is also involved in it.
Erik Menendez criticizes “Monster: The Story of Lyle and Erik Menendez”
Erik Menendez had only spoken out to his wife Tammi Menendez on September 20th with a lengthy statement in which he accused the makers of the series of a “ruinous character portrayal” and insinuated that they had bad intentions.
In the statement, he primarily criticizes an untruthful portrayal of the emotional and sexual abuse that he and his brother allegedly suffered at a young age. In the real court case, the defense attorney for the two brothers had cited this background as a key factor in her later crime.
