MrBeast gives away cars and large sums of money – and has become a YouTube star in the process. But now the 26-year-old is under criticism.
The American James Stephen (Jimmy) Donaldson has achieved what many people only dare to dream of: As a YouTuber under the name “MrBeast”, he has more than 300 million followers, several million dollars in his account and has now built an empire around his brand. It is not for nothing that he is considered the most successful YouTuber in the world. And yet the 26-year-old has to constantly strive to maintain his clean image, and his business methods are repeatedly criticized. The YouTuber gives away large sums of money and material assets to strangers – and in doing so actually makes his followers happy. Now, however, he has to answer in court.
The reason is dubious incidents during the filming of the Amazon show “Beast Games”, in which the influencer will soon be seen on the streaming platform – if it is broadcast. Because: Five participants of the game show have joined forces for a class action lawsuit against Donaldson and Amazon. And the allegations are serious, involving sexual harassment and a misogynistic culture on set.
Lawsuit against MrBeast: Sexual harassment and misogyny
Specifically, according to a report by the US broadcaster BBC, the court documents in the case state that the plaintiffs suffered “particularly and collectively” in an environment that “systematically promoted a culture of misogyny and sexism.” In addition, the participants were deliberately provided with only sparse food, so that they had to go hungry. There is also talk of sexual harassment and several hospital stays by the participants during filming. Neither the YouTuber nor Amazon have yet commented on the allegations.
The “Beast Games” are a joint production by Donaldson’s production company MrB2024 and Amazon. It is set to be nothing less than the biggest reality competition series of all time. A total of 1,000 participants will compete for prize money of five million dollars. Another gold mine in the empire of the successful influencer. The lawsuit is now throwing this master plan into disarray.
