Seven years after the death of their frontman, the rock band is going on tour again and is enthusiastically received at their only concert in Germany. The focus: the new singer Emily Armstrong.
“Hamburg, it’s nice to see you!”: After a break of several years, the rock band Linkin Park played in front of German fans in the Hanseatic city for the first time. Founding member Mike Shinoda gave the crowd a big smile and a greeting before the first song. But the biggest attention of the evening was directed at singer Emily Armstrong.
The 38-year-old was introduced as the band’s new vocalist at the beginning of the month and takes over the parts of former frontman Chester Bennington, who died in 2017. She was welcomed warmly at the Barclays Arena with chants of “Emily”. The approximately 15,000 fans sang and screamed along loudly to the first song, “Somewhere I Belong”.
New album released in November
Singer Bennington committed suicide at the age of 41. The future of the band, which enjoyed great success with hits such as “In the End” and “Numb”, remained uncertain for a long time after that. With the new album “From Zero”, which will be released on November 15th, Linkin Park now wants to start a new chapter. The first single “The Emptiness Machine” was also part of the setlist in Hamburg and fans were already singing along to the lyrics. However, the comeback with Armstrong had previously been criticized by some fans on social media.
The show was initially announced as the only German concert of the “From Zero World Tour” and was sold out in a short time. Only six dates have been announced for the tour worldwide so far. The band, which became known for its mixture of metal, rock, rap and electronic sounds, has already played in Los Angeles and New York. There will be performances in London, Seoul and Bogotá.
