“DSDS” juror Dieter Bohlen had to go under the knife because of blood poisoning. He describes his illness with brutal honesty.
Last Saturday (21 September), viewers of “Deutschland sucht den Superstar” on RTL saw how pop titan Dieter Bohlen (70) was immediately treated for a cut that seemed relatively harmless. But Bohlen’s caution is not without reason. “I don’t want to get blood poisoning. I had that recently, I don’t need that again!” he explained on the “DSDS” show. The 70-year-old now tells the whole story.
Dieter Bohlen had “complete blood poisoning”
According to the report, Bohlen had to go to hospital a few months ago for emergency surgery. According to his own statement, he had “six different germs” in his knee after health complications. What happened? After a meniscus injury, Bohlen was treated in a “quick clinic”. Afterwards, his knee swelled up. “It didn’t get any better. I was in pain like hell!” reveals the “DSDS” veteran.
“When Carina brought me back after nine days, they just looked at me stupidly and said: There’s nothing more we can do, you have to go to the emergency room at the hospital immediately. I was almost unconscious at that point.”
“Six different germs in the knee”
In the emergency room, “an emergency operation had to be performed immediately,” Bohlen continued. A blood test showed that he “had complete blood poisoning with a CRP value of over 200.” With this value, a person is considered seriously ill. A value of up to five milligrams per liter of blood is normal.
“There were six different germs in my knee and they didn’t know if they could even save my leg,” Bohlen recalls the terrible days. But antibiotic treatment gradually improved his health. His inflammation marker eventually went down again. Now, says Bohlen, he’s even playing tennis again. So his knee is fine again, but he’s still being cautious.
