Mimi Fiedler eleven months after the separation: “I have not relapsed”

Mimi Fiedler struggled with the separation from film producer Otto Steiner. She could no longer eat and had money problems.

“When the anger subsided, there was sadness…”: In November 2023, actress Mimi Fiedler (49) confirmed her separation from film producer Otto Steiner (61) after four years of marriage. For the recovering alcoholic, the last few months have been challenging and there is a constant risk of relapsing.

“I’ve only been stable for maybe four weeks. So I get up in the morning and say: OK, the day could be spent without crying 80 times. For me, stability means not relapsing, not thinking about alcohol,” the “Tatort” actress openly admitted.

The actress went on to explain how she suffered physically after the breakup: “I think everyone who has been through a breakup knows that there are two ways to deal with it. Not eating and eating too much. I just couldn’t eat anything.” She didn’t say anything about the reason for the breakup. Only this much: “I left him.”

“I didn’t relapse”

There is one main reason why the Croatian-born woman is speaking to the media about the end of her marriage and her condition: she wants to clear up rumors. “What there have definitely been in recent months are rumors, lots of rumors, that I have relapsed, that I am drinking again, that this was the reason for the separation. God willing, I have been sober for almost six years and I have not relapsed,” Fiedler explains.

She showed the Cologne-based private broadcaster RTL her new, secluded life in the mountains of Mallorca and admitted that she had also reached her financial limits after the separation. “I’m watching my money now. I didn’t have to do that in my marriage.” She bought the furniture for her small rental finca at “flea markets, in second-hand shops.”

“First of all, I had to [nach der Trennung; Anm. der Red.] I have to admit that I didn’t manage to build up my own reserves in this marriage either. I led a great life, but not from my own resources,” the TV star reflected. “My girlfriends were there for me not only mentally, but also financially.” the actress is now earning money.

The next dream man must have a “perfect reference”

“From now on, I’m treating myself like an elite university. If you want to study with me, you have to have had really good grades beforehand. You have to bring a flawless certificate. Everyone who has ever had anything to do with you – including women – has to say only good things,” says Mimi Fiedler, setting clear conditions for a potential new partner. “The next person who comes into my life will have had at least one therapy session like me.”
