Ilkay Gündogan and his wife Sara announced on Instagram that they are going to be parents again. Family photos clearly show the baby bump.
Ilkay Gündogan (33) is going to be a father for the second time. The Manchester City player, who retired from the German national team in the summer of 2024, and his wife Sara Gündogan (29) announced the pregnancy last Monday (September 23) with two black-and-white photos.
“We dream of you”
The photos show the couple with their son Kais (1), who is cuddling in his father’s arms and, in the second photo, stroking his mother’s baby bump. Sara Gündogan reveals her clearly bulging belly through an unbuttoned blouse. “We dream of you,” wrote the parents-to-be on the two photos. In the comment columns, Robert Andrich’s (30) wife Alicia Andrich and Ann-Kathrin Götze (34), wife of Mario Götze (32), among others, congratulate the couple on their new baby.
Ilkay Gündogan and his wife have been married since 2022. In March 2023, they announced the birth of their first child on Instagram. In one post, the couple shared three black-and-white photos showing the new parents in the hospital with their little son. “Our love is here,” the couple wrote, revealing that their boy is named Kais Gündoğan and was born on March 15.
During the European Championships at home, Ilkay Gündogan talked about the balancing act between life as a family man and as a football player: “It’s not that easy. […] The little one shouldn’t have to sit on a plane every week or stay in hotels. Luckily, these days there are things like Facetime – of course, that doesn’t even come close to replacing personal closeness, but I can still talk to my wife every day and see the little one too.”
Although the German captain has Turkish roots, another “official language” prevails in the Gündogan household, he revealed. “We both try to focus on English when speaking to Kais.” This is due not only to his own origins but also to that of his wife: “My wife’s mother tongue is French, but she also speaks Italian because she lived and worked in Italy for years. And I come from a German-Turkish household. In Barcelona, almost everyone only speaks Spanish. The compromise between all of this is usually English.”
