Powerful hard rock and the ballad “Lady In Black” made Uriah Heep famous. After more than 50 years, the band around guitarist Mick Box wants to slow down in the future. But there is no talk of stopping.
The musicians of the British hard rock band Uriah Heep have announced their last world tour. Guitarist Mick Box (77), the last remaining founding member of the cult group, announced this in a video message on the official Uriah Heep website. However, a complete withdrawal from the stage is not planned.
Concerts in as many places as possible
“It’s hard to believe that next year will be 55 years since the band started. It’s just unbelievable,” said Box. “Unfortunately, we have made the decision to end our world tours starting next year.” According to Box, Uriah Heep want to play in as many places as possible in the next two to three years.
The farewell tour is called “The Magicians Farewell,” a reference to the Heep album “The Magician’s Birthday” from 1972. But fans of the rock veterans don’t have to do without concerts entirely. “We’ll continue to play shows,” assured Box. “But it will be limited to festivals, weekends and things like that.”
Start of the farewell tour in Great Britain
The tour begins in February 2025 in Birmingham, England, and will initially travel through Great Britain. Dates for the rest of the world will follow shortly. Uriah Heep have been particularly popular in Germany since their beginnings, thanks in part to their appearances on television shows such as “Beat Club”.
Uriah Heep were founded in London in 1969 and are among the pioneers of hard rock. In the 1970s, the band made a name for themselves with powerful guitar riffs and the distinctive sound of the Hammond organ. Heep’s breakthrough came with the albums “Look at Yourself” (1971) and “Demons and Wizards” (1972). The group’s most famous hits include “Easy Livin'”, “Gipsy” and the ballad “Lady in Black”.
