He has just ridden through the open-air theatre in Bad Segeberg as Winnetou, and in a few months he will be swinging from vine to vine as Tarzan in Stuttgart. That is why he has set himself a goal.
For his role as Tarzan in the musical of the same name, singer and actor Alexander Klaws (41) wants to largely avoid unhealthy food and train a lot. “My trick is that it doesn’t happen quickly. Instead, you have to take a lot of time and change your diet,” Klaws told the German Press Agency in Hamburg.
That’s not so easy. “Especially when you have children at home who only eat gummy bears. That also teaches you the discipline to say no and to do without.”
The timing for the change is not perfect with Christmas in mind, said the Westphalian with a laugh. “When everyone is running around with chocolates and gingerbread again, then I’ll be the one running around with the look and just eating vegetables and eating healthily.”
But he doesn’t want to give up sugar completely. “That’s nonsense. People need a little sugar here and there.”
Alexander Klaws became known in 2003 as the winner of the first season of “Deutschland sucht den Superstar” (DSDS) on RTL. Since then, he has taken on many roles, especially on musical stages, including Tarzan, Alfred from “Dance of the Vampires” and Sam in “Ghost”. In 2025, he will play Tarzan again for 15 guest performances in Stuttgart.
