TV award: Jan Böhmermann wins the German Television Award with show

The German Television Award is celebrating an anniversary this year: it was first awarded 25 years ago. One of the winners in 2024 is a man who was still a teenager at the time.

Presenter Jan Böhmermann has won the German Television Award with his ZDF show “Lass dichüberwachung!” The 43-year-old won the “Best Entertainment Show” category with the relatively new concept on Wednesday evening. The RTL dance show “Let’s Dance” was one of the shows that came up short.

“It feels really good to get the award for a show that everyone can actually like,” said Böhmermann, holding the trophy. The presenter has already won several television awards. He became known with his show “ZDF Magazin Royale,” in which he combines biting satire with journalism.

The editorial team researches its guests

The principle behind “Let yourself be monitored!”: People believe that they can attend an edition of “ZDF Magazin Royale” in a Cologne TV studio – but then everything turns out completely differently. Weeks before, the editors searched the Internet for traces of their guests. Now the results are presented in the studio in an entertaining – and sometimes painful – way.

The German Television Award is sponsored by ARD, RTL, Sat.1, ZDF and Deutsche Telekom. The streaming providers Disney+, Netflix and Prime Video are partners. This year, WDR has taken the lead on behalf of ARD.

There was a big TV gala on Wednesday evening. The previous evening, the first prizes had already been awarded at a smaller “Night of the Creatives”.
