Imposter Anna Sorokin: She upsets dance show fans with her departure

Anna Sorokin’s participation in “Dancing With The Stars” was controversial from the start. The imposter’s departure also heated up tempers.

Her participation was controversial and did not last long: after only two episodes, imposter Anna Sorokin (33) was kicked out of the dance show “Dancing With The Stars”. The reason is quickly found: the 33-year-old simply received too little support from the viewers. Her departure from the show, the US equivalent of “Let’s Dance”, upset many people.

When asked by presenter Julianne Hough (36) what she would take away from the competition, Sorokin replied with a brief “Nothing”. Hough later published this exact excerpt from the show on her Instagram account and wrote: “There you have it… ICONIC”. She added a tearful laughing emoji and a skull emoji. Many of her followers can’t laugh at Sorokin’s performance at all. “That’s not iconic, that’s tasteless,” says one user. Another user asks: “Iconic? How about outrageous?”

Juror: “This is a disgrace”

Judge Carrie Ann Inaba (56) also has clear words for Sorokin’s behavior. In an interview with “Entertainment Weekly” she described the comment as degrading to the chance she was given and to her dance partner Ezra Sosa, who made his debut in the 33rd season of the format. “We all tried to give her a fair chance. But I don’t think she could see that, and that’s a shame,” Inaba continued. When asked if she thought the audience didn’t give Sorokin a chance, she said: “I think our audience did what they thought was right.” The fans are passionate and committed and only vote for those who deserve it.

Sorokin’s participation in the dance show was controversial from the start and was only possible under certain conditions. The convicted con artist is still under house arrest ordered by the courts. She had to wear an electronic ankle bracelet that was decorated with rhinestones to match her dance outfit. In the same episode, US actress Tori Spelling (51), who was also taking part, was eliminated from the format.

The machinations of Anna Sorokin

Anna Sorokin was sentenced to at least four years in prison for fraud in 2019. Under the pseudonym Anna Delvey, she had posed as a German millionaire heiress and is said to have fraudulently obtained services and goods worth over $200,000 from Manhattan’s high society. The 33-year-old gained greater fame with the series “Inventing Anna” from 2022. The miniseries on Netflix told a fictionalized version of her machinations.
