Lisa Marie Presley: The birth of her twins made her addicted

Lisa Marie Presley’s memoir posthumously reveals her statements about her addiction to prescription painkillers.

The tragic death of Lisa Marie Presley (1968 – 2023) shocked her family in January 2023. Now the daughter of Elvis Presley (1935-1977) will soon have her say again posthumously in her memoirs, which will be published in October. In the book “From Here to the Great Unknown”, which her eldest daughter Riley Keough (35) completed in her name, her addiction to prescription painkillers is discussed, among other things.

Presley describes, among other things, how she slipped into addiction after the birth of her twin daughters Finley and Harper Lookwood (15) in 2008. “For a few years it was just a pastime and then at some point it wasn’t anymore,” says an excerpt from the work published exclusively by People. “It was an absolute addiction with withdrawal symptoms in the big league.”

So her addiction got worse

It continues: “You may be reading this and wondering how I could take painkillers after losing people close to me,” it says, alluding to her father Elvis Presley and her ex-husband Michael Jackson. “I was recovering from the birth of my daughters when a doctor prescribed me medication for pain. All it took was that I was briefly prescribed painkillers in the hospital and I felt the need to continue taking them.”

To complete the memoir, Presley’s daughter Riley listened to taped memories of her mother Lisa Marie. It was particularly difficult for her to write the chapter about “her mother’s descent into addiction,” according to the “People” report. It was just as difficult for her to write the chapters about the death of her brother Benjamin Keough (1992 – 2020) in 2020, who himself struggled with drug addiction and committed suicide.

In June, Riley Keough revealed the cover and title of her mother’s upcoming memoir. The biography of Elvis Presley’s only daughter will be titled “From Here to the Great Unknown.”

The publisher’s description states that Lisa Marie Presley grew up “in an American myth and in the wilds of Graceland” and tells “her full story for the first time in this raw, compelling, unique memoir.” Daughter Riley “faithfully completed” the book.

The Unhidden Story of Lisa Marie Presley

The actress worked with the tapes that her mother recorded for the book before her death. Accordingly, her mom tells these stories about “the unconditional love she felt for her father” but also how she was “dragged screaming from the bathroom as she ran to his corpse on the floor.”

The memoir is also about Presley’s time in Los Angeles, “how she was sent from school to school” and “constantly getting into trouble,” they say. Her marriages to Danny Keough (1988-1994) and Michael Jackson (1994-1996) as well as her motherhood are also topics in the biography. The book will be published on October 15, 2024 and can already be pre-ordered.
