The 54-year-old top model wanted to alleviate hardship and poverty with the fundraising organization Fashion for Relief. But an authority in Great Britain found the organization to have serious deficiencies.
The British supermodel Naomi Campbell (54) is no longer allowed to head any charity organization in England and Wales for five years. The British Charity Commission decided this after an audit of Campbell’s fundraising organization Fashion for Relief.
Campbell and two other former board members were found guilty of misconduct and mismanagement of donations. For example, the model is said to have stayed in a luxury hotel in Cannes for three nights at a cost of 9,400 euros at the organization’s expense and used spa treatments and room service worth more than 7,900 euros.
Only a small portion of the donations were passed on
In addition, no minutes of meetings and decisions were kept, as required for non-profit organizations. An imposed action plan was not implemented. Statutory annual financial statements and reports were submitted late, the report continued.
The aim of the Fashion for Relief organization was to alleviate poverty and promote health and education. Funding should be made available to other organizations for this purpose, which was raised at fashion events in London, Cannes and other locations.
But the organization gave only a small portion of the proceeds to charity, the agency found. Of the income of 4.8 million pounds (around 5.8 million euros), almost 4.6 million were incurred in expenses. Fashion for Relief has since been disbanded, the report said.
