The James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) is a NASA projectin collaboration with the European Space Agency (ESA) and the Canadian Space Agency (CSA). Launched on December 25, 2021, it is the most powerful telescope built to date and is designed to observe the universe in the infrared.

It has a main mirror of 6.5 meters in diametercomposed of 18 hexagonal segments. This allows it to capture more light than previous telescopes. It is located at the Lagrange point L2, approximately 1.5 million kilometers from Earth.giving you a stable environment to observe without interference from Earth’s atmosphere.

What research did NASA do through the James Webb Telescope?

Since its launch, JWST has provided surprising images and data, revealing details about star formation, galaxy evolution, and the chemistry of exoplanet atmospheres.

Through the telescope, NASA researchers were able to find signs of ionized chemical elements which are normally observed near supermassive black holes.

Now, the information received was very important since it demonstrated the presence of a very powerful wind that is expelled by the galaxy, which are high speed and are usually driven by processes associated with Vigorously accreting supermassive black holes.

What are supermassive black holes?

Supermassive black holes are enormous concentrations of mass found at the centers of many galaxies, with masses ranging from millions to billions of times the mass of the Sun.
