King Charles III reacted to the death of Maggie Smith: “Deeply saddened”

“My wife and I are deeply saddened to hear of the death of Dame Maggie Smith.”The British monarch said in a statement.

“As the curtain comes down on a national treasure, we join all those around the world who remember with the deepest admiration and affection his many great performances and his warmth and wit that shone both on and off the stage.”

The king shared a photo of himself speaking to Smith at the Pride Of Britain Awards at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London on October 31, 2016, when he was still Prince Charles.

The extensive career of Maggie Smith

Smith was one of the greatest British film stars of her generation and will be remembered for her performances in iconic films and television shows, including harry potter and Downton Abbey .

She appeared as the formidable Professor McGonagall in the Potter film series, running Gryffindor House and serving as deputy headmistress to Albus Dumbledore.

In Downton Abbey she was the irascible Violet Crawley, who often delivered some of the best lines in the lavish period drama Julian Fellowes about English aristocrats.

Smith won two Oscars during a career that spanned several decades. In 1970, The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie earned him his first Academy Award, and nine years later he repeated the success in California Suite.

In addition, he received four other nominations for the films Othello from 1965, Trips with my aunt from 1972, A room with a view from 1986 and Gosford Park 2001. Likewise, she has won five BAFTAs, four for best actress and one for best supporting actress, four Emmys, three Golden Globes and two SAG Awards.
