Meryl Streep to star in adaptation of bestselling novel?

Oscar winner Meryl Streep is set to star in the series adaptation of Jonathan Franzen’s bestseller “The Corrections.”

The American writer Jonathan Franzen (65) achieved his big breakthrough in 2001 with his novel “The Corrections”. The work, which is over 700 pages long, tells the story of an older couple from the Midwest who, in view of the father’s rapid health decline, want to gather their three adult children again for a Christmas celebration in their parents’ house. In addition to this framework, the novel also devotes a detailed storyline to each individual child.

Previous attempts at adaptation failed

the author of the bestseller is currently making another attempt to adapt his mammoth work as a series. Previous attempts by the pay-TV broadcaster HBO to bring the material to the screen had failed dismally a decade ago. According to the report, Jonathan Franzen chose Hollywood icon Meryl Streep (“The Devil Wears Prada”, 75) for the main role of the desperate mother Enid Lambert.

“Variety” claims to have learned about the series deal from reliable insiders, but this has not yet been officially confirmed. Successful author Franzen is said to have personally adapted his novel for the screen and also acted as an executive producer in the film adaptation. The promising new series is to be financed by CBS Studios.

Meryl Streep was most recently seen in the hit Hulu comedy “Only Murders in the Building,” for which she was nominated for both a Golden Globe and an Emmy.
