Mourning for Professor McGonagall: The “Harry Potter” stars said goodbye to Maggie Smith on social media.
The acting world mourns the death of Dame Maggie Smith (1934-2024). The British actress known from the “Harry Potter” films and the hit series “Downton Abbey” has died at the age of 89. Her family announced this last Friday. The cast of the “Harry Potter” film series took to Instagram to speak out about the death of the Minerva McGonagall actress and found touching words to say goodbye.

Hermione Granger actress Emma Watson (34) said of a picture with Smith on the “Harry Potter” set: “When I was younger, I had no idea that Maggie was a legend – the woman I was lucky enough to be with “To share the space.” It wasn’t until she grew up that she realized “that I shared the screen with a true definition of greatness. She was real, honest, funny and had self-respect,” Watson continued. “Maggie, there were a lot of male professors and you held your own. Thank you for all your kindness. I will miss you.”
Draco Malfoy actor Tom Felton (37), who shows a shared “Harry Potter” scene with Smith: “It was with great sadness that I heard the news of Maggie’s death. There was simply no one like her. Thank you for literally “Thank you for not kicking me off the set when I couldn’t stop giggling during your Transfiguration class. Thank you for showing us the way.”
Ron Weasley actor Rupert Grint (36): “It breaks my heart. She was so special, always funny and always kind. I’m incredibly happy to have shared a set with her and especially happy to have danced with her “I will miss you, Maggie. I send all my love to her family.”
The actress Bonnie Wright (Ginny Weasley, 33) wrote: “Our dearly loved and revered Head of House Gryffindor: You will be greatly missed by the Harry Potter community.” Wright then shared a fond memory with her co-star: “My favorite scene with Maggie was when we were all learning to dance for the Yule Ball. She embodied the perfect mix of sassy and loving that is McGonagall. She held that Gryffindors on their toes. My deepest condolences to Maggie’s family at this time.”
“Harry Potter” actor Daniel Radcliffe (35) had already said goodbye to his long-time colleague in another way. According to Variety, he said in a released statement: “She was one of the most talented women to ever walk this world. She left an incredible legacy and will always be remembered.”
