In San Sebastian, Andrew Garfield presented his new film “We Live in Time” and reported how good the time off was for him.
Andrew Garfield (41) is back in the spotlight. After a two-year break, the British actor presented his new film “We Live in Time” at the San Sebastian Film Festival on Saturday.
Garfield appeared on the red carpet in a white suit and black bow tie. Although he was not accompanied by his co-star Florence Pugh (28), he had director John Crowley (55) at his side. The time off seems to have done Garfield extremely good. “I feel looser, I feel less affected. I feel happier. I feel more aware. I feel established as a person in the world, as an actor with myself and in the world”, . And further: “I now know myself well enough to feel more joy.”
The Brit also spoke about his new film. “We Live in Time” is a romantic drama in which an aspiring chef (Garfield) and a newly divorced woman (Pugh) fall in love, have a child and make their way through life. However, the family’s bumpy happiness is shattered by a late-stage cancer diagnosis.
In 2019 he lost his mother to cancer
A topic with which Garfield also connects personal experiences. In 2019 he lost his own mother to cancer. In the interview he also talks about how he dealt with this grief. The simple realization that it had always been like this would have helped him. He explains: “Sons have lost their mothers, daughters have lost their mothers [seit Anbeginn der Zeit]. We’re lucky if it’s like that and not the other way around.” For him, it’s “good to know how common the experience is, considering how universal it is.” He hopes to be able to transfer this knowledge to the audience: “In terms of my own personal experience, it felt like a very simple act of healing for myself and hopefully for the audience as well.”
In Germany, “We Live in Time” will be released in cinemas in early 2025.
