Healthy habits collaborate with cardiovascular health

Healthy habits collaborate with cardiovascular health

With the aim of raising awareness about cardiovascular diseases and promoting prevention, control and treatment measures, in 1998 the World Heart Federation established this date to establish the conversation and disseminate information about the care we can take to prevent these diseases. In this context, the Argentine Society of Cardiology (SAC), the Cardiological Foundation and Glaciar, waters with low sodium content, join the awareness day.

Cardiovascular diseases are the leading cause of death worldwide, and Argentina is no exception. According to a report based on vital statistics from the Directorate of Health Statistics and Information (DEIS), during the year 2021, 1 in 3 deaths were of cardio or cerebrovascular origin.

Prevention, diagnosis and early treatment of high blood pressure (HTN) is key in the population since it is one of the modifiable risk factors that explains much of this disease burden. This year, the World Heart Federation carry out the campaign “Use heart for action” (Use your heart for action), through which it asks public administrations in all countries to prioritize cardiovascular health and establish specific policies for it.

Likewise, and with the commitment to environmental care, the SAC has recently published a position document on air pollution and cardiovascular disease, its implication in water and soil contamination and community interventions to mitigate its effect.

Some tips to take care of your heart

In addition to adequate and timely controls, there are other factors that contribute to curbing the incidence of cardiovascular diseases. Weight control, maintaining physical activity in daily life, not consuming tobacco and reducing sodium consumption are tools that can help avoid this pathology.

Some healthy habits, recommended by the SAC, are:

  • Do not smoke: tobacco consumption triples the risk of suffering from cardiovascular disease
  • Avoid saturated fats, pre-cooked products, excess red meat and sugary products
  • Avoid consuming more than approximately 5 grams of salt per day
  • Maintain a diet based on fruits and vegetables, fiber, fish and legumes
  • Exercising at least 30 minutes per day is recommended.
  • Sleep well, since adequate rest maintains our hormonal levels and regulates breathing.
  • Avoid or pay attention to situations that generate stress, since in the long term it increases the risk of developing this type of pathology.

On the other hand, it is essential that all people, whether health professionals or not, know the basic maneuvers of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). This will allow them to correctly help whoever needs it and thus increase the chances of saving a life.

“Glaciar is the leading brand in the Low Sodium segment, and the only one recommended by the Argentine Society of Cardiology for having less than 7 mg per liter. Since its beginnings, when talking about healthy habits was not fashionable, Glaciar has been a pioneer in promoting a healthy way of life, taking care of people’s hearts and laying the foundations for a lifestyle that today is considered a trend, or which at least we are aware of is the best way to take care of our health. This historic milestone forever marked the destiny of the brand, the trust it generates, making millions of people continue to choose it every day for their low-sodium hydration,” said Carolina Santillán, Marketing & Innovation Manager of Eco Aguas y Bebidas Saludables. .
