history of the castle
This property is a sample of the wealth of the Piñeiro del Mármol family. In 1840, Orestes Piñeiro and his brother José, who owned pharmacies in Buenos Aires and Lobos, bought the first lots and tried to exploit livestock. But several decades passed before the place took on its current appearance.
Orestes and Candelaria del Mármol could not have children and adopted a girl, Rebeca, who married around 1890 and after returning from her honeymoon in love with the castles of the Loire, she designed the residence in their image and likeness.
It was the French architect Alberto Favre who fulfilled his dream. The ground floor was completed around 1900, four years before his father’s death and nine years before his mother’s. The young woman, who had no offspring, founded the Benevolent Brotherhood that had a vacation colony attended by a large number of low-income children.
In 1937, two years after being widowed, she ordered the construction of the chapel that still stands on the ranch, and after her death, she donated a large part of the property for her charitable activity.
Currently, the property can be visited, both for a picnic and for weddings, events and overnight stays. There are even guided circuits to get to know nooks and crannies designed at the time to prevent house employees from seeing each other, spiritual stories and the most private details of this family.
