Own mausoleum in Buenos Aires: Diego Maradona’s resting place has been determined

The remains of Diego Armando Maradona, who died in 2020, will soon be transferred to their final resting place.

Almost four years after the death of Diego Armando Maradona (1960-2020), the official decision has now been made as to where the remains of the Argentine football legend will be laid to rest. Among other things, the competent court of San Isidro approved the transfer of Maradona’s body from the private cemetery Jardín Bella Vista to the mausoleum Memorial del Diez (Memorial of Number 10), which was specially built for him.

The mausoleum is located in the center of the Argentine capital Buenos Aires, more precisely in the Puerto Madero district near the Presidential Palace. The exceptional footballer’s daughters, Dalma and Gianinna Maradona, as well as his former partner Veronica Ojeda, had already applied for the exhumation and repatriation in May of this year. Now, according to La Nacion, the court agreed to allow this step for “emotional reasons”.

Last October and on the occasion of Maradona’s 63rd birthday (October 30), his family announced the construction of the mausoleum. After the approval, it is now planned that the transfer will take place in a festive procession in honor of his 64th birthday.

Diego Maradona died after brain surgery

Diego Armando Maradona died on November 25, 2020, around three weeks after brain surgery at the age of 60. The official cause of death was a heart attack. However, his survivors are of the opinion that medical negligence led to the world star’s death. Eight defendants must therefore face charges of negligent homicide in a trial that, after being postponed twice, is currently scheduled for March 2025.

Maradona’s personal doctor Leopoldo Luque and his psychiatrist Agustina Cosachov will then take their place in the dock. Another doctor, a psychologist, a coordinator from his health insurance company and a total of three nurses also have to be responsible.
