Subways: they raised turnstiles to ask for security
The measure will allow travel without paying the ticket.
Thus, transportation employees will release the turnstiles at the named station between 12 and 1 p.m. this Wednesday. For one hour, users of this subway line – who number up to more than 180,000 a day – will be able to travel without paying for the ticket.
It should be noted that the measure will be valid only for the Federico Lacroze station. At the moment, no other actions have been announced in the rest of subway lines.
Free subway: why will the turnstiles be released?
The main reason for the action carried out by the subway employees is to support the Federal Educational Marchwhich will take place today, Wednesday October 2. In this context, the epicenter of the claim will be in the Plaza del Congreso, although it is expected that the mobilizations will be replicated in the most important cities throughout the country.
But, in addition, the measure of force also seeks to give visibility to a series of complaints from the workers of subway line B. Among them is the repudiation of the recent increase in subway faresince last Tuesday, rose to $757. In this way, the ticket for this means of transport has already reached a increase of more than 800% from December 2023.
Finally, the workers also seek to denounce the crisis that this line is experiencing. Among the main demands are the presence of carcinogenic asbestosthe fleet obsolescence and the general deterioration of infrastructure.
In this sense, Claudio Dellecarbonara, executive secretary of the Union Association of Subway and Premetro Workers, detailed: “We are on the brink of a tragedy, both for users and workers. We continue to demand that the Head of the Porteño Government take urgent measures”.
