While thousands of people were watching his Twitch stream, André Krieger suffered a stroke. A shocking situation for Krieger, who now explains the background.
André Krieger alias “Commanderkrieger” has more than 700,000 subscribers on YouTube, but a large part of his job on the Internet is streaming on the live platform Twitch. Krieger plays various video games there and subscribers can watch him. Last week, however, Krieger fans got to see something different. The “moment that changed his life,” is how the streamer puts it in a video on YouTube. The 44-year-old suffered a stroke – in the middle of live streaming.

“It was five in the morning and I had already been online for a few hours,” he says. When he wanted to read a comment from a viewer, Krieger suddenly could no longer speak properly. “Wow, dude, what’s wrong with my hair and my eyes are closed,” he said, looking confused. Krieger then tried to get his speech under control, but continued to stutter. “No shit, am I disabled right now or what?” he asked his viewers and himself. In his YouTube video, the streamer shows the scene, which lasted more than ten minutes.

He read the message from his viewer and his brain was able to process it. Difficulties arose when reading aloud. “Little by little I became more and more afraid. I had problems seeing clearly. My entire field of vision became more and more obscured and I could only see a very small area. The rest around it flickered,” he remembers.
He called 911 but didn’t call. Instead he went to bed. A few hours later he decided to go to the doctor after watching the stream again. His blood pressure was elevated and the doctors actually diagnosed him with a stroke.
Krieger himself knows why he suffered a stroke. The doctors confirmed that he would not live a long life with his lifestyle. One of the doctors even told him that at least he didn’t have to worry about retirement planning. A statement that stuck. Krieger reflects on his unhealthy lifestyle in the video: Instead of water, he almost exclusively eats cola. “I’m too fat. I weigh 170 kilos at 2.01 meters. I drank coke from morning to evening until I couldn’t go anymore,” he says in his video. From now on the streamer wants to change his life. Because he still wants to live, he emphasizes.
In the comments under his video, Krieger received a lot of encouragement and well-wishes. Others point out that if you have speech problems you should call 112 immediately.
