Men in Black director Barry Sonnenfeld has shared an unflattering story about filming with Will Smith.
Working with Will Smith (56) is apparently not always easy. As “Men in Black” director Barry Sonnenfeld (71) now revealed, the actor probably had problems with his digestion.
Sonnenfeld told a story about filming with Smith that wasn’t very flattering. In one scene, Smith was in a transforming car with his co-star Tommy Lee Jones (78). During filming, the two actors had to sit together in a “hermetically sealed” capsule.
Sonnenfeld remembers how Smith began apologizing to Jones during filming. He quoted Smith: “‘Oh, I’m so sorry. Tommy, I’m so sorry. Baz, get the ladder.’ And I heard Tommy say, ‘That’s OK, Will. Don’t worry, don’t worry, Will.'” At that point he didn’t know what had happened in the capsule. “So we run over with the ladder. Tommy sticks out his leg as the ladder arrives and runs down the stairs. And what happened was: Will Smith is a farter,” Sonnenfeld claimed.
The stage had to be evacuated for three hours
It wasn’t the best place to be stuck “in a very small, hermetically sealed room with a Will Smith fart,” the director continued to complain. “You wouldn’t even want to sit next to him at the Disney Ranch,” Sonnenfeld said. In fact, the fart had far-reaching consequences for the day of filming: “We evacuated the stage for about three hours. And that’s unbelievable,” said Sonnenfeld.
The flatulence didn’t stop Sonnenfeld from making two more “Men in Black” films with Smith. Nevertheless, his conclusion about working with Smith after this experience in the new conversation is: “No, he’s, you know, a nice guy. Only, he farts. Some do, some don’t.”
