Singer Justin Bieber maintained close contact with P. Diddy at the beginning of his career. Now the two’s joint appearances appear in a different light.
US rapper P. Diddy has been in custody in a New York prison since mid-September. He is accused of serious crimes such as rape, forced labor and human trafficking. While the musician denies all allegations and pleads not guilty, numerous Hollywood stars and music greats are likely to be looking forward to the upcoming trial with trepidation. P. Diddy was known for his lavish parties that he threw at various locations. The guest list included celebrities such as Leonardo DiCaprio, Ashton Kutcher and Beyoncé Knowles. For years they were happy to be at the rapper’s side, but now no one wants to be associated with him anymore. Because at P. Diddy’s parties lasting several days, so-called “freak-offs”, heinous crimes are said to have occurred. Young women were drugged, sexually abused and filmed, according to the allegations.
Someone who also maintained close contact with P. Diddy for years is singer Justin Bieber. The Canadian was only 13 years old when he was discovered on YouTube by music producer Scooter Braun and musician Usher. The two signed him to their label Raymond Braun Media Group (RBMG). Bieber’s first album was released at the age of 15, followed by a world tour. During this time, Bieber repeatedly appeared at P. Diddy’s side. Performances that, looking back, appear in a different light.
For example, a visit between the two of them on Jimmy Kimmel’s US talk show in 2011. “What is it with you two? Do you work together?” Kimmel wanted to know. “No. We became friends in a weird way,” Diddy said, calling Bieber a “little brother.” “He’s not afraid to call and ask for advice. The music industry is like a family. We want to protect him. Aside from his talent, he’s one of the greatest young people you could ever meet.” Kimmel suggested P. Diddy could buy Justin Bieber a car. The rapper then replied: “He had a Lamborghini for a day or two and he had access to the house. He knows he better not talk about the things he does with his big brother Puff on TV. Not everything is for Something for everyone.”
P. Diddy promised Justin Bieber: “We’re going crazy”
Bieber was 16 years old at the time of the performance. In fact, there is another video on his YouTube channel that was made a year earlier and is titled “48 Hours with Diddy.” In the clip, the then 15-year-old Bieber and P. Diddy can be seen in front of one of the rapper’s properties. Diddy showed Bieber a silver Lamborghini and promised he could have the car when he turned 16. At 18 he would get the house. When Bieber asked what they were doing that weekend, P. Diddy replied: “We can’t really say where we’re going and what we’re doing. But it’s definitely a 15-year-old’s dream. We’re going to go crazy.”
Bieber now looks back on his friendship with P. Diddy differently. In 2020, he said in a: “It was hard for me being so young in the industry and not knowing who to turn to. Everyone told me they loved me and turned away from me the next second away.” Justin Bieber has not yet commented on P. Diddy’s arrest. In September, a person close to him told US magazine People that the 30-year-old wanted to concentrate fully on his role as a new father. In August, Bieber’s wife Hailey gave birth to their son Jack.
