Armin Mueller-Stahl celebrates his 94th birthday on December 17th. There was already an early present for him.
He is one of the most famous actresses in Germany – and has also distinguished himself as a painter, musician and writer. Armin Mueller-Stahl (93) was honored with the Prince of Prussia Prize for this “outstanding lifetime achievement” as a “remarkably versatile artist”. This has been awarded by the European Cultural Workshop (EKW) Berlin-Vienna since 2018. According to the organization, Mueller-Stahl is the fourth recipient since then.
Recognized as a bridge builder between artistic metiers
The award ceremony took place on Sunday, October 6th, as part of the gala “A Song Goes Around the World” in the Konzerthaus am Gendarmenmarkt in Berlin. The actor, who is also known for his role as “Budenbrooks”, has mastered the artistic metiers “all masterfully”, as the certificate praises. He is a prominent “bridge builder” between these metiers and thus offers the audience an “extraordinary artistic approach”.
Mueller-Stahl, born in East Prussia, started his career in the GDR as a theater actor. But first he completed an exam as a music teacher. After leaving the Federal Republic in 1980, he was able to continue his career and was even internationally successful. He was nominated for an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor in 1997 for his role in the film “Shine”.
The award is intended to commemorate the long-standing honorary president of the EKW, Friedrich-Wilhelm Prince of Prussia (1939-2015). It is awarded to artists for their outstanding and courageous life’s work. The presidium and the honorary president, Princess Sybille of Prussia (72), select the winners.
