Judi Dench: Film star bursts into tears on stage

Leigh-Hunt (1935-2024), who appeared alongside Judi Dench in the BBC sitcom “As Time Goes By”, died like Maggie Smith in September. She was 88 years old.

O’Hea asked Dench at the festival what she meant when she once compared grief to gasoline. “I guess because the energy that comes with grief…” the actress began to answer before she reportedly burst into tears and apparently couldn’t continue.

Friendship spanned 70 years

According to British media reports, Maggie Smith and Judi Dench, who were both born in December 1934, had been friends since they met at the Old Vic theater in London in the 1950s. They performed together on numerous occasions. The two acting stars were seen together in “Room with a View” in 1985 and in “The Scent of Lavender” in 2004 and they also played the main roles in “Best Exotic Marigold Hotel 2” in 2015. The actresses also worked together in the documentary film “Nothing Like a Dame”.
