Pamela Anderson: “I suffered from depression for a few decades”

Pamela Anderson was the sex symbol of the 90s. Nowadays she is a serious actress and talks about topics like depression in an interview.

Pamela Anderson will forever be associated with the red swimsuit from the 90s series “Baywatch,” even though she has long since slipped into countless other roles. In Switzerland, the 57-year-old accepted the Golden Eye Award from the city of Zurich for her latest film “The Last Showgirl” and looked back on her life in an interview with Variety magazine.

“I don’t think I would have been able to play this character in ‘The Last Showgirl’ if I hadn’t had the life that I had,” said Pamela Anderson. She once escaped from a small town, took off her clothes for Playboy, and polarized people with her nudity and lots of sex appeal. “When you grow up on an island, people don’t go away. And when you go away, people talk. I gave them lots of things to talk about to make fun of me. For free,” she remembers.

Pamela Anderson perceives many years of life as “blurred”.

But even though her acting standards and her roles have changed these days, Anderson still sees “Baywatch” as a door opener for her acting career: “When I look at it now, it feels like I’m from ‘Baywatch’ went to Broadway. I don’t know what happened in the meantime, it’s all a blur.”

But the fact that her memories are distorted also seems to be due to her mental health. The actress explains in Zurich: “I’m just happy to be here, at this moment, because I think I’ve been suffering from depression for a few decades.”

After some time out of the spotlight, she returned to the screen in 2023 with a documentary “Pamela, a Love Story” and to bookshelves with her memoir “Love, Pamela.” Looking back on her life, Anderson also says, “I always knew I was capable of more. It’s great to be part of pop culture, but it’s both a blessing and a curse. People fall in love with you because of a swimsuit. It has It took a long time, but I’m here.”
