Again and again, JK Rowling causes scandals and anger with her sometimes anti-trans statements. “Harry Potter” stars have already commented on this. Rupert Grint has now made it clear what he thinks of the author.
When a large part of the “Harry Potter” ensemble came together for a special reunion show on January 1 of this year, the most important person from the cosmos was missing: author JK Rowling, who once created the sorcerer’s apprentice. Only a few snippets of interviews from 2019 were recorded by her, while Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, Emma Watson and Co. indulged in old shows.
‘Harry Potter’: Rupert Grint comments on JK Rowling
There is speculation as to why Rowling wasn’t part of the reunion. Because although she was apparently asked, it is possible that one wanted to avoid distracting from the topic – namely the anniversary of the “Harry Potter” films. Most recently, Rowling caused scandals with her sometimes transphobic statements. Rupert Grint, who plays Ron Weasley in the films, now spoke out on the difficult subject, but tried to remain diplomatic.
“I see JK Rowling as an aunt. I don’t necessarily agree with everything my aunt says, but she’s still my aunt. It’s a tricky thing,” he told the Sunday Times. It was extremely difficult for him to isolate himself from his film character. “I’m having a really hard time breaking away from Ron – we’ve fused into the same person. I can’t believe it started 20 years ago. It definitely shaped me. I mentally closed the door, even though I constantly confronted with it – there’s the play, the theme park and it’s always on TV,” he told the newspaper.
Emma Watson has already taken a stand
The reunion with Emma Watson and Daniel Radcliffe was all the more nostalgic. Rowling often expresses transphobia, especially on Twitter. Watson previously took a stand, writing on Instagram: “Trans people are who they say they are and they deserve to live their lives without being constantly questioned and told they are not who they are they are. I want my trans followers to know that I and many other people in this world see, respect and love you for who you are.”
