Lisa Marie Presley was unable to part with her son Benjamin’s body after his death, her memoir reveals.
In January 2023, the death of Lisa Marie Presley (1968-2023) shocked her family, who had been shaken by strokes of fate. In her memoirs “From Here to the Great Unknown – From Here into the Unknown: Memories”, published posthumously on October 8th, the daughter of Elvis Presley (1935-1977) now has her say one last time. Among other things, she reveals how much the death of her son Benjamin Keough (1992-2020) hurt her.
Lisa Marie Presley is said to have kept the then 28-year-old’s body in her home for two months after his death and even called in a tattoo artist to get a partner tattoo with her son.
Lisa Marie Presley kept her son’s body for two months after his death
Presley describes in the book that daughter Riley Keough (35) finished writing after her death that after Benjamin’s death she had to force herself to stay alive for her other children. That also meant that she couldn’t say goodbye to Benjamin straight away.
“My house has a separate bedroom, and I kept Ben Ben there for two months,” Page Six quotes from the book. “In the state of California there is no law that says you have to bury someone immediately. I found a very sensitive funeral director. She said, ‘We will bring Ben Ben to you.'” She also couldn’t decide for a long time whether She should bury her late son in Hawaii or in Graceland, the estate in Memphis where Elvis died and is buried. The room in which Keough was kept was kept at a temperature of 55 degrees Fahrenheit (about 13 degrees Celsius) to protect his body.
A particularly strange moment occurred when Lisa Marie Presley and Riley Keough wanted to get tattoos in honor of their late son and brother, respectively. Benjamin Keough wore his sister’s name on his collarbone and his mother’s on his hand. The two ultimately wanted to tattoo his name in their respective places. When the tattoo artist asked if they had photos of Benjamin’s tattoos so he could compare the font and position, Lisa Marie replied, “No, but I can show you.”
Riley Keough writes in the book: “Lisa Marie Presley had just asked this poor man to look at her dead son’s body, which happened to be right in the room next to us. I’ve had an extremely absurd life, but this moment ranks in the top five. “
Funeral shortly after the tattoo
Shortly after the tattoo day, they had the feeling that Benjamin was now ready for his eternal rest. In October 2020, the family held a funeral in Malibu, after which he was buried next to his grandfather Elvis at Graceland. Lisa Marie also found her final resting place there in January 2023.
Benjamin and Riley Keough come from Lisa Marie Presley’s marriage to musician Danny Keough, to whom she was married from 1988 to 1994. From her fourth marriage, to Michael Lockwood, she also had twins Harper and Finley Lockwood (16).
