Taylor Swift received increased police escort for her concerts in London. Now there is criticism that the singer received special treatment under pressure from the government.
After the alleged attack plan against her concerts in Vienna, US pop star Taylor Swift received increased police escort for her London concerts in August. However, Culture Minister Lisa Nandy on Wednesday rejected suspicions that Swift had received special treatment under government pressure. The police decide how to proceed, she emphasized to Sky News.
Taylor Swift: Protection is otherwise only available to heads of state
Tabloid The Sun previously reported that Swift had benefited from a “VVIP” escort usually reserved for foreign heads of state or senior members of the royal family. Prince Harry, for example, did not receive this protection. According to the Sun, the London police initially rejected this protection, but Home Secretary Yvette Cooper and London Mayor Sadiq Khan insisted on it.
In August, three of Swift’s performances in Vienna were canceled because of a suicide attack allegedly planned by an Islamist. According to the “Sun”, Swift’s mother and manager then threatened to cancel the London concerts if the musician did not receive the stricter police escort. After “personal intervention” from Home Secretary Cooper and Mayor Khan, the London police finally agreed.

The Labor government recently came under criticism for accepting expensive gifts from Prime Minister Keir Starmer and several ministers. As a result of the discussions, Starmer paid back £3,400 (4,000 euros) for six Taylor Swift concert tickets that he had received as a gift.
