US actress Jenna Fischer made it public that she was diagnosed with breast cancer in December last year.
US actress Jenna Fischer (50) makes her breast cancer diagnosis public. The star of the US series “The Office” (2005-2013) has been battling the disease since December 2023.
In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, she shared a photo of herself with her “patchy pixie” haircut and wrote on Instagram: “I never thought I would make an announcement like this but now is “I was diagnosed with stage 1 breast cancer last December. After surgery, chemotherapy and radiation, I am now cancer-free.”
Fischer also wrote that the problems were noticed during a routine mammogram, where unclear results due to dense tissue led her doctor to order an ultrasound. “They found something in my left breast. A biopsy was ordered. Then on December 1, 2023, I learned I had stage 1 triple-positive breast cancer.” The actress further explained that the cancer is “aggressive… but responds very well to treatment” and that she underwent a lumpectomy.

“Luckily my cancer was caught early and hadn’t spread,” Fischer said, before adding that she received weekly chemotherapy starting in February and underwent three weeks of radiation in June. She continues to receive treatment, “but I’m happy to say I’m doing well.”
She urged her followers to get mammograms annually, adding: “My tumor was so small that you couldn’t feel it during a physical exam.” She continued: “If I had waited six months longer, it could have been much worse. It could have spread… Consider this a kick in the ass.”
Colleagues react with relief
Angela Kinsey (53), who played Angela Martin in “The Office” and co-hosts the “Office Ladies ” with Fischer, commented on the post: “I love you and I’m so glad you shared it. I’ll give it to you Free your back, always.” Ellie Kemper (44), who starred as Erin Hannon in the series, commented: “We love you, Jenna. Thank you for sharing and inspiring us.”
And actress Olivia Munn, 44, who announced her own breast cancer diagnosis earlier this year, wrote: “You already know how much I love you and how incredibly proud I am of you. But I just want to say it again: I love You and by sharing your story you are helping so many women and saving so many lives. You are simply the best.”
